Over the years, floods, cyclones, earthquakes, droughts, and landslides have inflicted tremendous suffering on the people of India.
Years of conflict have displaced populations and left many without means to provide for themselves. Providing protection, health and nutrition remain a priority.
It is also severely affected by poverty more than 800 million people in India are considered poor and vulnerable to malnutrition, and poor access to education. Also, Indians suffer from high infant mortality, and as a coping mechanism, they use Child labor and forced marriage.
An estimated 40,000 Rohingya took refuge in India over several decades. There are around 1,000 Rohingya living in Delhi.
Humanitarian conditions of Rohingya refugees in India are so dire. They are now looking at the bleak prospect of a second displacement, fleeing to Bangladesh to escape hostile conditions in India.
Hayat Yolu provided cash assistance to Rohingya refugees in India to alleviate part of their suffering. We have also implemented several projects that aim at improving the food security and health conditions of the most vulnerable and poor communities.
“I have seven children, the younger of them are malnourished. I work in a farm and eat from its products, so there are many foods that my children have not eaten for a while.”
Sarkan family is one of the families benefiting from the Food Security Project implemented by Hayat Yolu.
“My mother is an elderly lady and she lives with me in the same house. I cannot cover my large family’s food needs, especially that there are children. The food aid that Hayat Yolu provided to us with relieved part of our burdens. I could notice the change in my children and my mother. It’s enough that they no longer go to sleep without dinner.
Giving can transform lives, foster compassion, empower communities, and inspire positive change for a better world.
