Since Saturday, October 7, 2023, the people of Gaza have been facing an increasingly severe humanitarian crisis due to the ongoing siege conditions. The Ministry of Health has reported that 770 people have died and over 4,000 have been injured. Many homes have been demolished or badly damaged.
In Gaza, where approximately 2 million Palestinians reside, it has been reported that over 137,000 Gazans who were forced to evacuate their homes due to the destruction that occurred have sought refuge in 64 UNRWA schools. Additionally, many others have sought refuge in the homes of relatives and friends in areas considered to be safer than the border regions, as there are no designated safe zones.
No Water, Electricity and Fuel
According to reports, the residents have been deprived of access to water and electricity. The United Nations has stated that over 610,000 people will be unable to obtain safe drinking water due to the cuts in Gaza’s water and electricity supply. As a result of the blockade on Palestinians’ access to water, electricity, and fuel, even their most basic needs such as healthcare remain unmet.
